Coalbed Methane Facility Siting Study

RESPEC performed a study to evaluate the safe placement of the continuously manned operator/control building to ensure personnel were protected from potential release and ignition of natural gas being processed at the facility. A risk analysis was also performed to incorporate the probability of flammable release with the consequences.
Project Highlights
- The siting study covered all equipment at the compressor station facility
- Performed a preliminary evaluation of building and equipment location
- Developed a determination of credible scenarios of flammable gas release
- Evaluated release scenario consequences on the operator/control building and personnel including the following:
- Flammable gas concentration and exposure time
- Overpressure (blast force) due to vapor cloud explosion
- Thermal radiation due to jet fire
- Calculated the risk level of release scenarios
- Determined a safe location for the operator/control building
- Identified mitigating measures that can be taken to reduce risk levels
- Provided a report of all findings
Benefits (Engineering, Economics, & Environment)
The client made informed decision about the operation of the 40+ years old facility (originally built in late 70’s).
